Penn Counterparts acapella performance on Wednesday, March 8th from 1-2PM
Founded in 1981, Counterparts is the University of Pennsylvania’s oldest all-gender a cappella group. Today, we sing pop and jazz, create albums and music videos, and tour across the world. From 1994-1999, John Legend was a member of Counterparts and served as its President and Music Director. In 2019, the group had the incredible opportunity to meet John and open for him before a performance on Penn’s campus as well as tour his studio during our March 2020 tour to LA. Recent Counterparts performances include singing the national anthem during the 2022 Phillies baseball playoffs, 2022 NFL recording for a Netflix Show, 2022 University President’s Inauguration, Carnegie Hall, the New York Public Library, the 2018 Scotland-Ireland rugby game, the Pennsylvania Society Gala, and several of Penn’s Convocations. The group’s past tours include locations such as London, California, and Ireland. Counterparts has produced 15 albums and 5 music videos, including a collaboration with Arts House Dance Company which won Best Mixed Collegiate Video.
